What is the difference between fabric PU and PVC?(1)

Update:28 May
The top layer of PVC is lacquer, the main component in the middle is polyvinyl chloride, and the bottom layer is back-coated adhesive.
PU, commonly known as synthetic leather, has a lighter specific gravity. The textures of PU are all paper textures, which is a process in which PU pulp is coated on a textured release paper, and the paper is peeled off after cooling and setting, thereby leaving the paper texture on the PU layer. PU can also be post-processed and embossed. There are two types of production processes: wet and dry. The two are very easy to distinguish. The wet method is generally thicker because there is a layer of BASE (low foam layer) between the surface layer and the base fabric, while the dry method does not have BASE and is directly coated on the cloth bottom, so it is relatively thin and the texture is easy to deform. Wet PU has a wide range of uses, such as bags, handbags, shoes, balls, stationery, sofas, etc., while dry PU is mainly used in packaging and clothing.
People generally refer to synthetic leathers other than genuine leather such as PVC and PU leather as artificial leather or imitation leather. Both PVC and PU are polyvinyl chloride (a type of plastic), but the manufacturing processes of these two products are different. In the manufacturing process of PVC leather, the plastic particles must be melted and stirred into a paste, uniformly coated on the T/C knitted fabric base according to the specified thickness, and then entered into the foaming furnace for foaming, so that it can adapt to Produce a variety of different products with different softness requirements, and carry out surface treatment (dying, embossing, polishing, matting, polishing, etc., mainly according to specific product requirements) at the same time as baking.
The manufacturing process of PU leather is more complicated than that of PVC leather. Since the base fabric of PU is canvas PU material with good tensile strength, it can be coated on top of the base fabric, and the base fabric can also be included in the middle to make it The appearance can't be seen in the presence of the bottom cloth. The physical properties of PU leather are better than that of PVC leather. It is resistant to tortuosity, softness, tensile strength, and air permeability (PVC does not). The pattern of PVC leather is formed by hot pressing with steel pattern rollers; the pattern of PU leather is pressed on the surface of semi-finished leather with a patterned paper first, and then the paper leather is separated to make the surface after cooling down. deal with. The price of PU leather is more than twice that of PVC leather, and the price of some special requirements of PU leather is 2-3 times higher than that of PVC leather. Generally, the pattern paper required for PU leather can only be used 4-5 times and then it is scrapped; the pattern roller has a long service life, so the cost of PU leather is higher than that of PVC leather.
There are also certain differences in the scope of application of these two materials. In terms of footwear, PVC leather is mostly used in linings or non-weight-bearing parts, or to make children's shoes; PU leather can be applied to footwear fabrics or parts that bear weight. In terms of bags, PVC leather is more suitable. This is because the items in the bag are different from the feet worn in the shoes and will not emit heat; there is no need to bear personal weight.
The difference between PU and PVC is relatively easy. From the corners, the PU base fabric is much thicker than PVC, and the feel is different. PU has a softer feel; PVC has a harder feel; it can also be burned with fire. PU The smell is much lighter than that of PVC
Identification method:
1. PU feels softer than PVC, has good quality and good toughness. It is generally used for fabrics and can withstand relatively large tension;
2. The price of PU is more expensive than that of PVC;
3. PVC can be torn apart forcefully, but PU cannot;
4. The base fabric of PVC is generally thinner and thinner; there are more PVC bottoms and jersey bottoms, while the quality of PU bottoms is relatively high; the bases of PVC leather are generally woven fabrics and knitted fabrics. The base of PU leather is non-woven fabric;
5. If it is burned with fire, the smell of PU is relatively weak, and the PVC will turn black and smell bad.
6. The proportion of PVC is larger than that of PU.
7. PVC has a deeper texture, and the foam layer in the middle is more obvious.
